Arriving at the cava
The theatre sits on a pedestrian street in the middle of Fira, inside a restored 19th-century cava — a wine cellar building rather than a purpose-built theatre. Guests arrive before the show starts and are shown in as the family home the evening is staged around, the setting for the whole 1940s wedding story.
Meeting the Papadopoulos family
The performance opens inside, where the cast introduces the family whose wedding you're attending for the night. It's a fictional household built for the show, not a real family, and the actors carry the story from here out into the courtyard.
The courtyard and the first pour
Guests move out to the courtyard, shaded by a hundred-year-old vine, where tables are already set. Santorini's own white wine starts arriving in karafaki jugs from here, kept topped up through the night, alongside the Greek mezze that makes up the food.
The dancing builds
As the wine and food settle in, the cast leads Zorba, syrtaki and other traditional Greek dances through the courtyard. Joining the circle is entirely optional — plenty of guests are happy watching from the table.
The plates
The night's own tradition closes the evening: guests are invited to dance, drink and break plates as a send-off for the new Greek family, the custom the show is built around.
Leaving Fira after dark
Plan on a walk back through Fira's pedestrian streets, or a short taxi from the 24-hour rank near McDonald's Square.
